You wouldn't believe how much spam gets caught daily. 250 comments in the past two weeks. I'd hate to have to go through all of those, so I try to bot-proof the comments as much as possible. As far as interpretation, the reader is going to read what he or she wishes to read regardless of what the writer intended to write.
